Last Packing Clip for my Family of 7!
Pt.3/3 of packing for our destination✈️
Okay, so you've seen my 'last packing clip' and maybe you're wondering how we even get to that point with a family of seven! Trust me, it's a journey, not a sprint, but with some clever strategies, you can totally keep your cool. I've learned a few things over the years that have made family travel so much smoother, especially when it comes to packing. First off, the master list is your best friend. Seriously. Before I even pull out a suitcase, I have a running list on my phone (or a trusty notepad) for *everyone*. I break it down by person and then by category: clothes, toiletries, essentials, entertainment, and 'just in case' items. This prevents those frantic 'did I pack socks for everyone?' moments. Outfit planning is a game-changer for kids. For each child, I lay out complete outfits – top, bottom, underwear, socks – for each day and put them into individual Ziploc bags. This makes mornings a breeze, even for little ones who want to pick their own clothes. Plus, used clothes can go back into the same bag, keeping dirty and clean separate. Don't forget the 'personal carry-on' rule! Each kid, even the younger ones (if they're able), gets a small backpack with their favorite comfort item, a book or two, and some mess-free snacks. This keeps them entertained and gives them a sense of responsibility. For our littlest ones, I always make sure their bag includes a few diapers, wipes (those PAMP Finishing Strong packs are lifesavers for quick changes!), and a small toy to keep them happy on the plane or in the car. It’s all about empowering them to 'finish strong' with their own essentials! Medication and first-aid kit: This is non-negotiable for a big family. I have a dedicated pouch with pain relievers for adults and kids, band-aids, antiseptic wipes, any prescription meds, and a thermometer. It saves so much stress when you're away from home. Toiletries strategy: Instead of packing full-sized bottles, I swear by travel-sized containers or solid toiletries where possible. For the kids, I have a shared bag with their necessities to minimize clutter. And always, always pack a small bag with essentials in your carry-on – just in case checked luggage gets delayed. Think toothbrushes, a small toothpaste, and travel-sized deodorant. Snacks, snacks, and more snacks: Travel makes everyone hungry, especially kids. Pack a variety of non-perishable snacks that are easy to eat on the go. This not only saves money but also prevents meltdowns when hunger strikes unexpectedly. Laundry on the go: If your trip is longer, consider packing a small amount of travel laundry detergent or laundry sheets. Finding a laundromat or using a hotel's service can be a lifesaver, allowing you to pack less clothing overall. It might seem like a lot, but these tips have truly helped our family of seven travel more smoothly and enjoyably. It’s all about preparation and having a system that works for your unique family dynamic. Happy travels!
