Shopping in Tokyo 🇯🇵

Tokyo

... Read moreWhen I was planning my trip, I really agonized over 'what to wear in Tokyo in March'! The weather can be a bit tricky, with crisp mornings and evenings, but pleasant afternoons. I found that layering was absolutely key to staying comfortable. Think light jackets or stylish cardigans, along with long-sleeved tops and maybe a thin sweater. A foldable umbrella is also a must-have! For 'how to dress in Japan as a tourist,' my main takeaway was comfort and respect. You'll be doing a lot of walking, so comfortable shoes are non-negotiable. While Tokyo fashion is incredibly diverse and expressive, it's generally a good idea to lean towards smart casual, especially when visiting temples or more traditional areas. Avoiding overly revealing clothing helps you blend in respectfully. I noticed many locals opt for classic, well-put-together outfits, even for everyday errands, which was inspiring! Now, let's dive into the exciting part: 'cheap things to buy in Japan'! This was a huge focus for me, and I discovered some incredible places. My absolute favorite spot was Don Quijote (Donki) – you know, those vibrant, bustling stores often lit up at night like the MEGA Don Quijote you might see in photos? They are treasure troves! From quirky snacks and unique cosmetics to household goods and amazing souvenirs, you can easily spend hours there finding things at fantastic prices. I even found some unique Japanese-themed UNO card decks that made perfect gifts for friends back home. Beyond Donki, I highly recommend checking out the famous 100-yen shops like Daiso, Seria, or Can Do. You'd be amazed at the quality and creativity of items you can find for just a dollar – from cute stationery and kitchen gadgets to adorable home decor. For electronics and duty-free goods, places like BIC CAMERA are worth a browse, even if just for the experience of seeing all the latest tech. And don't forget the convenience stores (konbini)! They're not just for quick eats, but also for unique drinks, limited-edition snacks like regional Kit Kats, and sometimes even small, affordable souvenirs. Tokyo's lively street scenes, with all their bright lights and bustling energy, often hide smaller independent shops too where you can unearth unexpected gems. Happy hunting and happy shopping!
