Wow, what an incredible journey it’s been with my mango tree this year! After a fantastic first yield, I’m absolutely thrilled to announce a segunda cosecha – a second harvest of delicious, organic mangoes! It truly feels like a gift from nature to have two rounds of fresh fruit. There’s nothing quite like walking out to your own backyard and plucking a ripe, fragrant mango right off the branch. For those of you wondering about the 'Mango Chancleta' variety, it’s a personal favorite for its unique sweetness and juicy texture. Each one is a little piece of sunshine! Of course, the joy of a home garden often comes with its own set of challenges, and for me, it's those incredibly clever ardillas. Oh, esas ardillas se las saben todas! They are so mischievous and seem to know exactly when a mango is perfectly ripe, often beating me to the punch. I’ve tried a few things to deter them – from reflective tape to netting – but they are persistent little creatures! It’s a constant battle between me and my furry neighbors for the sweetest fruit. If anyone has tried-and-true organic methods for keeping squirrels away from their mangoes, please share your secrets! I’m always looking for humane and effective solutions. One of the questions I often get is, "How do you know when to pick your mangoes?" It’s a great question, and my advice is usually to córtalos cuando tú creas conveniente – cut them when you think it's convenient, meaning when they show signs of ripeness! Look for a change in color, a slight softening to the touch, and that unmistakable sweet aroma. Some varieties will turn a beautiful yellow or orange, while others might stay green even when ripe. A gentle tug on the stem is also a good indicator; if it comes off easily, it’s usually ready. I love letting them ripen naturally on the tree for the best flavor. Growing organic mangoes in my backyard has been such a rewarding experience. Knowing that the fruit my family and I enjoy is free from pesticides and chemicals makes every bite even sweeter. It’s not just about the fruit; it’s about connecting with nature, understanding the cycles of growth, and appreciating the effort that goes into producing food. If you're considering planting a mango tree, I highly recommend it – the occasional squirrel antics are definitely worth it for the incredible taste of homegrown organic mangoes!
