October Wrap Up 🖤

Wow, October was truly a rollercoaster for my reading list! As mentioned, it felt like a marathon sometimes, especially with some of the heavier reads. Speaking of marathons, let's dive a bit deeper into my experience with *Crescent City*. When I said, 'Don’t even get me started how long “Crescent City” was,' I really meant it! It’s a beast of a book, and while 'a city of stars and betrayal' certainly sets a grand stage, I found myself grappling with its sheer size and sometimes dense world-building. I know it's a fan favorite, but for me, that 2-star rating came from feeling a bit overwhelmed. The initial setup felt incredibly slow, and I struggled to connect with some of the characters in the early chapters. While the concept of a magical city filled with intricate political plots and hidden truths is alluring, the pacing just didn't quite click for me this month. I was hoping for more of the 'stars' and less of the 'betrayal' of my time, if that makes sense! It just goes to show how different reading experiences can be, even with highly acclaimed books. But it wasn't all struggles! You know, every reading month has its gems, and for October, 'The Road to Tender Hearts' truly shone. This book was such an unexpected delight, earning a solid 4 stars and becoming my 'Favorite Book' of the month, as my 'October Reading Wrap Up' collage clearly shows! The cover initially drew me in, but the story itself was a dark and captivating journey, completely different from what I anticipated. It had a depth and emotional resonance that truly surprised me after wading through some of the longer, more challenging reads. It reminded me that sometimes the books you least expect are the ones that leave the biggest impression. Beyond those two, my 'October Totals' came to 7 books, and it was a mix of genres and varying ratings. 'The Heart of Betrayal' also gave me some interesting twists, though it landed at 3 stars. I also dipped into 'Sinners Condemned,' which, like 'Crescent City,' didn't quite hit the mark for me, resulting in another 2-star rating. Then there were lighter reads like 'If It Makes You Happy' and 'One Golden Summer' (both 3 stars), which offered a nice balance amidst the more intense stories. And let's not forget 'You Wanna Be On Top?' which also earned a 2-star rating—it just wasn't the engaging read I was hoping for. This month really highlighted how eclectic my reading mood can be, swinging from epic fantasies to darker contemporary stories. Despite the challenging moments, finding a standout like 'The Road to Tender Hearts' made the entire 'October Reading Wrap Up' worthwhile. I'm already looking forward to seeing what November brings to my bookshelf!
