12 HOUR RN SHIFT DESK SET UP ♡
12-hour shifts mean my desk setup has to be on point ✨
When I first started working these long shifts, my desk was a disaster—flushes everywhere, pens constantly MIA, and no real system. Now? It’s my little command center that keeps me sane during the night!
Here’s what’s always within arm’s reach:
✔️ Nursing essentials – stethoscope, penlight, scissors (because you never know when you’ll need them).
✔️ The non-negotiables – flushes, pens, chapstick, lotion, and AirPods - during my shift i’ll listen to music or start a new show.
✔️ iPad + charger – for charting, catching up on a show, or reading when I get a rare break.
✔️ Go-to drinks – always water & ☕ (because, let’s be real, caffeine is life).
But let’s talk about the unexpected things—like the random item that somehow became a shift essential. Mine is a mini handheld fan for when I get too hot (not pictured above).
If you could add one more thing to your desk setup to make shifts easier, what would it be? Drop your answers below! ⬇️

For nurses working 12-hour shifts, having an organized and efficient desk setup can significantly enhance productivity and comfort. Key items include nursing essentials like stethoscopes, pens, and scissors, alongside comfort items like chapstick, lotion, and AirPods for entertainment during quieter moments. A portable fan is also a great addition for personal comfort. Staying hydrated is crucial during long shifts, making water bottles or travel mugs for coffee vital. Consider investing in a stylish but functional nursing bag to keep all your essentials organized. Don't forget to personalize your workspace with family photos or motivational quotes to keep your spirits up throughout the shift.
