The Best Nursing Advice I’ve Received as a Nurse 🫶🏼

I remember one random night shift my coworker said to me “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, and that really stuck with me.

She told me how she used to push through burnout until it nearly made her quit nursing all together. “You have to take care of yourself FIRST — sleep, eat, breathe, book that trip — THEN take care of your patients”.

It’s so easy as nurses to put our patients before ourselves, but if we do that then what kind of care will we be able to give? Ever since I heard that advice I started setting boundaries, taking breaks, and doing things that give me purpose. And you know what? I show up better every shift because of it! 🩷
