The 1 Task I Always Do Before I Clock Out as a RN
Before I clock out I always make sure to give my patients rooms a final walk-through. I make sure to peek at IV lines, check monitor settings, and make sure the beds are locked. I know it sounds simple, but this habit has saved me & the oncoming nurse more than once.
Especially being a critical care nurse, this habit is almost a necessity. Critical care patients can switch up from being perfectly okay to not so good in the blink of an eye.
It’s not about being perfect - it’s about looking out for your patients. If I can catch one potential issue before I leave, I know i’ve done my part.
In critical care, those small moments of diligence are everything.
