... Read moreHave you ever looked at old art and thought, 'Wow, I could do this so much better now!'? That's exactly how I felt looking back at my original Inksy Solar design. For artists, redrawals aren't just about updating an old piece; they're a fantastic way to track your progress, see how much your style has evolved, and revisit beloved characters with fresh eyes. It's incredibly motivating to see how far you've come, and it often reignites passion for a project you might have set aside, like my 'Forest AU'. Plus, it's a great excuse to draw your favorite characters again and give them a fresh look! When I decided to tackle this 2024 redrawal of Inksy Solar, I wanted to keep the core essence of the character while refining some aspects of the design. I started with a fundamental black and white sketch, focusing primarily on the pose, composition, and expression. Inksy Solar is a cartoon-style anthropomorphic character, and I always strive to make their unique personality shine through in every drawing. This time, I paid extra attention to the distinctive details – those signature large ears and a tail that give them so much character, and the way the hoodie drapes, adding to their playful yet mysterious vibe. I especially love adding quirky elements like the X-shaped eyes and those sweet heart symbols on the palms when they hold their hands up; they're small touches that really define Inksy's lighthearted nature and add a bit of magic. It's amazing how much difference subtle tweaks can make! If you're thinking of doing your own redrawal, here are a few things I've learned that might help you on your artistic journey. First, don't be afraid to change things! While I kept Inksy's core design intact, I allowed myself to experiment with line weight, shading, and even slightly different proportions to give this sketch a more dynamic and mature feel. Second, always try to compare your old work side-by-side with your new. It's the most effective way to spot genuine improvements in anatomy, composition, shading techniques, or even just the evolution of your personal style. Third, set a clear intention for your redrawal. Are you focusing on improving a specific skill, or just having fun and revisiting an old concept? For me, this Inksy Solar redrawal was primarily about rekindling my love for my 'Forest AU' and seeing how my current art skills could bring this character to life in a more polished and expressive way. It's such a rewarding experience, and I highly recommend giving it a try! It's been a while since I deeply immersed myself in the 'Forest AU' world due to focusing on family, but working on this redrawal has definitely sparked a renewed interest and creativity. This universe is very close to my heart, filled with unique anthropomorphic characters and their interconnected stories, each with their own quirks and adventures. Inksy Solar is just one beloved piece of a much larger puzzle, and seeing them come to life again in this 2024 sketch makes me incredibly excited to explore more of their adventures and the world they inhabit. I'm hoping to share more updates and possibly even some new art from this original fandom soon. What kind of redrawals are you hoping to see from artists, or what characters would you personally love to see updated or revisited from your own creative projects?
