On a weekend excursion with my TF. He is visiting and it has been the best reunion for both of us.
Weekend trips often hold special meaning, especially when shared with loved ones. On my recent weekend excursion with my partner, who is visiting after some time apart, we decided to explore some of the fascinating lighthouses along the coast. Each lighthouse stands not only as a beautiful architectural landmark but also as a vital historical beacon that once ensured the safety of ships navigating treacherous seas. One highlight was the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, known for its distinctive unpainted brick structure. It's fascinating to learn how lighthouse keepers used the timing of light flashes to identify specific stations at night. For instance, the currituck lighthouse flashes its light on for 3 seconds and off for 17 seconds, a specific pattern that mariners memorized to avoid hidden shoals and rocks. We also visited Bodie Island Lighthouse, which uses flip panels to create a repeat flash pattern of 2.5 seconds on and 2.5 seconds off. This visual language, once vital for nighttime navigation, exemplifies a remarkable blend of technology and human dedication. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse featured a white flash every 7.5 seconds. Standing near these lighthouses, you reflect on the hundreds of lightkeepers who personally maintained these beacons. Their vigilance and the clever engineering behind these flashes helped sailors traverse dangerous waters safely. This exploration turned the weekend into a journey through time, filled with history, personal connection, and the soothing presence of the ocean. Sharing this experience made our reunion even more meaningful, blending the joy of being together with the calm and grandeur of the coast’s guiding lights.
