I swatched the Pentel Energel RTX Liquid Gel Pens in 0.7mm today. The blue edition specifically. I love the Pentel series of pens, they all write super smooth and have been in my pencil pouch since middle school.
These pens are advertised to have high performance ink, quick drying ink, no smudge, and have a comfortable grip. These pens do not disappoint with what they’re advertised as. They meet expectations and even exceed them. They perform really well, do not smudge at all, highlighters work well with them and don’t smudge them, and they are quite comfortable to write with.
Overall, I’ll always rate these pens a 10/10. They’ve been one of my favorite pen brands for years. They’re also not too expensive if you’re on a budget.

I've used so many pens that skip or blob, but these deliver a flawless stream of ink. The 0.7mm tip is perfect for everyday notes – not too fine, not too broad, just right for legibility whether I'm scribbling lecture notes or jotting down ideas. You can truly see the difference in the writing samples. And oh, the colors! While my original review focused on the blue, I've collected a few others like the vibrant green, the deep navy, and the cheerful sky blue and turquoise from the set. Each one lays down such a rich, consistent color that truly stands out on the page, making my notes much more engaging.
For anyone who highlights their notes like crazy, this is a game-changer. I can go over my freshly written words with a highlighter almost immediately, and there's absolutely no drag or ink transfer. It keeps my work looking neat and professional, which is a huge plus. The quick-drying aspect isn't just marketing hype; it's genuinely fast. As someone who's often rushing, or for my left-handed friends who struggle with smudges, this feature alone makes the Pentel Energel RTX a top contender. No more accidentally smearing a whole paragraph right after writing it!
And let's talk about comfort. That comfortable grip isn't just for show. During long study sessions or when I'm writing multiple pages, my hand doesn't cramp up. It's designed ergonomically, making extended writing sessions much more pleasant. What does 'high performance ink' really mean? To me, it means reliability. I rarely encounter a Pentel Energel RTX pen that doesn't work right out of the box or starts fading halfway through. The ink flow is consistent until the very last drop, which is something I truly appreciate, especially when I’m focusing on a critical review or assignment.
Considering their premium feel and performance, these pens are surprisingly affordable. You don't have to break the bank to get a really high-quality writing tool. I've often found them in multi-packs at great prices, making them a fantastic budget-friendly option for students, artists, or anyone who just loves a good pen. They're widely available online and in most stationery or office supply sections, so stocking up is usually quite easy to find these pens.
It's no wonder why Pentel Energel pens are such a beloved choice across various communities, from students on campus to stationery enthusiasts online. I often see them recommended on forums and social media, and honestly, the hype is real. They consistently deliver on their promise of smooth, vibrant, and smudge-free writing. Whether you're taking notes, journaling, or just doodling, they truly elevate the writing experience. If you're searching for a reliable, comfortable, and top-performing gel pen that won't let you down, I highly recommend giving the Pentel Energel RTX 0.7mm a try. They really are 'the best pens to exist!' as I've even seen them described on packaging.
