The United States has seized another Venezuela-linked oil tanker named Veronica in the Caribbean Sea, U.S. officials tell Reuters, just days before a planned meeting between President Donald Trump and Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
This is the sixth vessel the U.S. has taken in recent weeks that either carried Venezuelan crude or had done so in the past, as Washington enforces a strict quarantine of sanctioned ships.
U.S. Southern Command says the tanker was seized “without incident” for violating the U.S.-imposed maritime quarantine on vessels tied to Venezuelan oil exports.
The crackdown is part of Trump’s broader effort to control Venezuela’s oil resources and pressure Maduro’s allies.
Trump officials say only legally coordinated oil shipments will be allowed to leave Venezuelan waters.
The latest seizure comes ahead of the Trump–Machado meeting, raising stakes for U.S. policy in Venezuela and energy markets.
