A Frame of Heritage explores art, architecture and memory through the perspective of urban heritage preservation.
"A Frame of Heritage" explores art, architecture and memory, through a new perspective of urban heritage preservation.
Neilson Hays Library, one of Bangkok's major historic buildings, is characterized by neoclassical architecture, designed by Mario Tamagno and completed in 1922, as a prime example of the transmission of Western architectural influences into the Thai context in style, proportion and use. It also serves as a cultural space that continuously accumulates the knowledge and memory of the city. The "place" itself is a reflection of what the exhibition is talking about.
This exhibition is the work of Square Blessed Sukha, which is based on a master's thesis, an international design art program, the University of Art, aimed at preserving Bangkok's architectural heritage through contemporary art expression, focusing on buildings designed by Mario Tamagno, an Italian architect who played a key role in the design of buildings in Thailand.
The interior showcases contemporary art that reflects the concept of heritage and memory, architectural Illustrations that convey the details of buildings and structures, which connect art to the concept of conservation, to open up a new perspective on restoration. These works help the audience look at architecture in a deeper dimension than the appearance, but as a space with stories, changes and historical meaning.
The exhibition is interesting both in architecture, which presents the concept of preservation through art, making the seemingly specialised subject more accessible, and in history, opening a perspective on the influence of Italian architecture in Thailand and the importance of preserving architectural identity in a contemporary urban context.
This exhibition not only tells the story of restoration, but invites us to question whether the true value of architecture is in the structure or the memories it holds, and explore the angle of architecture beyond the building at the exhibition "A Frame of Heritage."
