COSMOLOGY Explores the Outer Universe and the Inner Universe, Through Teardrops
When 'universe' means not just the stars or deep space, it is an area of infinite feeling.
"COSMOLOGY," an exhibition that invites us to explore the outer universe and the inner universe through teardrops, memories, and human emotions by artist Yuko Takaki.
This exhibition presents the idea that the universe and the human mind are full of "things that we cannot fathom," as well as black holes that hold back mysteries, and that the human mind is full of memories, sadness, hope, and stories that will never be fulfilled, so artists use "tears" as a key symbol to connect these two worlds.
This exhibition is a link between the 'outer universe' and the 'inner universe', making the universe not only a space of stars, but also a space of emotions and memories hidden within humans.
Many of the works are influenced by the artist's personal moments that make it aware of the shortness of life, and question the value of the moments that humans have; the works on display are therefore full of feelings of vulnerability, tenderness, and trying to understand human life and existence.
Inside the exhibition, we'll find 'Micro Cosmos' that uses teardrops instead of both the universe and human eyes, 'The Moon' that uses the full moon instead of hope and completeness, 'Star Gazer' that talks about staring at the stars until themselves become part of the universe, including 'Moon Tears', 'Sympathy' and 'Mysticism' that connect flowers, human bodies, memories and decay together.
Another interest of this exhibition is combining traditional Japanese painting techniques with contemporary ideas through the use of gold-silver plates, natural mineral colored powders, washi paper, Encaustic and mixed media techniques to create textures and emotional dimensions for works.
"COSMOLOGY" does not speak of the universe scientifically, but invites us to explore our inner world through emotions, memories, sadness, and hope that may be no different from the outer universe.
And perhaps we have discovered that the most mysterious thing in the universe is not the distant stars, but the human mind, which we do not fully understand.
