Mooring explores the journey of changing narratives with narrators.
Will the narrative remain true?..If every time it is forwarded, it changes with the narrator.
"Mooring," an exhibition that explores the journey of narratives through memory, language, and culture, with the question that what we perceive may be just one of the many truths that are always reinterpreted.
"Mooring" is the first exhibition of Open Ground, a project from Bangkok Kunsthalle that supports young artists and curators in the creation of experimental contemporary art; opens up space for new ideas to grow through experimentation, exchange and dialogue between artists and the public; to push the Thai contemporary art landscape to new possibilities.
Under the direction of curator Tong Pong Si Sai, the exhibition began on the question of what happens when a narrative travels across the borders of language, culture, and life experience; when the same story is passed from one person to another, the meaning may change according to the narrator, the recipient, and the context of the interpretation.
The name "Mooring," which means "anchoring" or "temporary tethering," is a metaphorical search for anchors among a world where narratives, memories, history, and identities are constantly moving and being re-meaning through exchanges between people and cultures.
The exhibition brings together the work of Arisa Taro, Kay Zhang, Thanash Thiradakorn, and Vanessa Bosch, which offer a way to tell stories through family history, cross-border migration, traces of sounds from past events, and spiritual experiences through animation, sound, and art layout, which open up spaces for viewers to interpret from their own experiences.
Instead of looking at history, memory, or belief as fixed conclusions, the exposition invites us to question whether every narrative can live longer than its narrator and change every time it is passed on to become unconsciously new.
