One tip I've learned is the importance of not leveling out the flour when measuring—mounding it slightly gives the pie the perfect texture. The subtle addition of lemon juice brightens the flavor, balancing the sweetness and richness of the buttermilk and butter. When baking this pie, keep an eye on the oven after 45 minutes to ensure the center sets firmly but doesn't overbake, as a slightly wobbly center when warm will firm up perfectly once cooled. For variation, you can sprinkle a little extra nutmeg on top before baking to enhance the aroma. This pie pairs wonderfully with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Personally, I find that allowing the pie to chill in the fridge for a few hours before serving enhances the flavors and makes slicing easier. Whether for a family gathering or just a cozy night in, this buttermilk pie is a timeless and rewarding dessert to make from scratch.
