Weasley is still a smol boi
But Weasley is almost twice the size they were when I got them a little less than a month ago.
It's truly incredible how fast time flies, especially when you're watching a tiny creature grow. When I first brought my little frog, Weasley, home a little less than a month ago, he was such a 'smol boi' – tiny enough to fit comfortably on my fingertip. Now, he's almost doubled in size, and I find myself marveling at his transformation every single day! It’s been an absolute joy to witness. I remember setting up his first home, a clear enclosure that felt enormous for him back then. I carefully arranged a soft white substrate, added some lush green plants for him to hide among, and placed a sturdy wooden stick for climbing. Seeing him perched there, a small, vibrant orange and brown frog with those striking red eyes, was just the cutest thing. I had done so much research on what these 'smol bois' need, especially when they're so young and delicate. One of the biggest changes I've noticed, apart from his increasing bulk, is his appetite! When he was truly tiny, I was feeding him minuscule fruit flies and small pinhead crickets. Now, he's graduated to larger crickets and even seems to eye the occasional waxworm with enthusiastic interest. It’s a constant task to make sure he's getting enough to eat, especially during this rapid growth phase. I've learned that consistent feeding with gut-loaded insects is paramount for healthy development in young frogs, and it's amazing how much they can pack away! Beyond the food, keeping his environment just right has been key. His clear enclosure allows me to monitor everything, from the humidity levels (crucial for a frog's skin health!) to the cleanliness of his white substrate. I mist his tank several times a day to maintain the right moisture, and those green plants aren't just for aesthetics; they provide vital cover and help hold humidity. The wooden stick, which once seemed like a towering tree, is now a perfect climbing branch for his more active, larger self, offering him plenty of enrichment. I also ensure he always has access to clean, dechlorinated water in a shallow dish for soaking. For anyone thinking of getting their own 'smol boi' frog, I can't stress enough how important research is. Understanding your specific frog species' needs – be it a red-eyed tree frog or another type of amphibian – will make all the difference. Always ensure their enclosure is secure, spacious enough for their adult size (or plan for an upgrade!), and has proper ventilation. Monitoring their behavior, like how active they are, their feeding patterns, or how their beautiful orange and brown skin and red eyes look, can tell you a lot about their health. Even 'smol bois' have distinct personalities, and it's incredibly rewarding to learn their quirks. It’s a commitment, requiring daily attention to temperature, humidity, feeding, and cleanliness, but watching Weasley grow from a tiny speck to a robust, active frog is an experience I wouldn't trade. It’s been such a journey in just a month, and I'm excited to see how much more my little orange and brown frog with his beautiful red eyes will continue to grow. He may not be a 'smol boi' forever, but he'll always be my special Weasley, and I'm looking forward to every stage of his life.
