Some projects are a test of skill

I'm not a cowl person. I prefer shawls, but when I saw the Morning Coffee Cowl pattern, I knew it was going to be a challenge. This pattern features cables in brioche stitch. I've worked cables before. I'm comfortable in simple Brioche stitch. This was the perfect next step in improving my knitting skills. I lost count of my rows more than once, and dropped 2 stitches. But she's done!

... Read moreKnitting projects that push your limits are incredibly rewarding, and the Morning Coffee Cowl is a perfect example. Taking on cables combined with brioche stitch is a step up from simple patterns, which makes completing it a satisfying achievement. I learned that patience is key—losing track of rows is common in complex stitch work, but keeping notes or using row counters can help immensely. Using a soft and durable yarn like Juniper Moon Herriot Great not only makes the project enjoyable but also gives the finished cowl a cozy texture that’s perfect for colder days. The cowl’s design strikes a balance between intricate and wearable, so it’s ideal for knitters looking to enhance their skills without feeling overwhelmed. If you’re hesitant about cables or brioche stitch, try practicing smaller swatches first to build confidence. Dropping stitches happens, but it’s part of the learning curve—knitting communities online can offer valuable troubleshooting advice. Overall, projects like this teach perseverance and attention to detail, making each finished piece a testament to your growing expertise and love for knitting.
