Redrawing old art
It's always a wild journey looking back at your old art, isn't it? I recently decided to take on the challenge of redrawing one of my older pieces, specifically a Jinx fan art from Arcane. It’s not just about updating your skills; it’s a whole dive into nostalgia and self-discovery as an artist! When you decide to start redrawing art from your past, the first step is often the hardest: picking the piece. I looked for something that showed potential but clearly lacked the skills I've developed since. For me, that Jinx piece was perfect. It had energy, but I knew I could give her more dynamic expression and refine her proportions. What's fantastic about revisiting old work is seeing exactly how far you've come. It’s not about judging your past self, but about celebrating your growth. You learn to spot areas where you struggled and apply all the new techniques you've picked up along the way. One area I really focused on in my redraw was the hands. Female hand drawing can be incredibly challenging, yet so crucial for conveying character and emotion. In my original Jinx art, her hands felt a bit stiff. This time, I paid extra attention to making them more expressive, reflecting her chaotic yet determined personality. I spent time studying references, looking at how hands naturally curl, grip, or express agitation. It’s amazing how much life a well-drawn hand can add to a character – from relaxed gestures to powerful action poses, they truly tell a story. Don't shy away from practicing hands; it makes a huge difference! Beyond the technical improvements, this redrawing project was deeply connected to self expression and self identity art. Art, for me, has always been a way to process emotions and explore who I am. Revisiting this Jinx piece allowed me to reflect on how my artistic voice has matured. My identity as an artist isn't static; it evolves with every stroke and every new technique I learn. This redrawing wasn't just about making a 'better' picture; it was about re-expressing a character I love through my current artistic lens, showcasing my journey, and embracing my evolving style. It’s a powerful feeling to see your past and present artistic selves come together in one finished piece. If you're ever feeling stuck or uninspired, I highly recommend digging through your old sketchbooks. You might just find the perfect piece to reignite your passion and celebrate your unique artistic path!
