What Was Never Yours to Keep
One thing I’m learning about God is this: if He removes something from your life and your intentions were pure, it’s not rejection — it’s protection.
We exhaust ourselves trying to hold on to things that were never meant to stay. A friendship that drifted away. A marriage that ended in silence long before it ended on paper. A relationship that left emotionally before it ever left physically. An opportunity that looked good but was never God’s best.
Here’s the truth: if it left emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually, or intellectually — it was never yours to keep. And that doesn’t mean you failed. It means God is protecting you.
Sometimes we confuse what we chose with what God sent. Just because it lasted 10, 20, or 30 years doesn’t mean it was divine. Time plays no favorites. Longevity doesn’t always equal alignment. If something is depleting you, draining you, or stripping you of peace, that may not be God’s plan — that may just be your choice. And when your heart is pure, His removal is mercy. His removal is protection.
It reminds me of John 15:2 — “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” That pruning is painful, but it’s purposeful.
So if you’re watching something fall away from your life — whether it’s a friendship, a marriage, a relationship, or even a door you thought was yours — don’t call it punishment. Don’t call it rejection. Call it what it is: protection.
Because God’s removal is God’s reminder: “I’ve got you. I see what you can’t see. I know what you don’t know. Trust Me.”
