Epic Odessey (The Odyssey) The Beginning of the Greatest Adventure in World History

The whole story begins with "The Golden Apple of Divisions," when the goddess Eris, the goddess of divisions, was not invited to the wedding of the gods, and threw a golden apple with the word "To the Most Beautiful" in the middle of the work, causing the goddess Hera, the goddess Athena, and the goddess Aphrodite to claim that they were worthy of the apple, and finally the prince of Paris of Troy to decide.

Each goddess offered something precious in exchange for being chosen; Hera offered the power to rule the world; Athena offered wisdom and victory in war; Aphrodite offered the most beautiful girl in the world as a wife; Paris chose Aphrodite, infuriating the other two goddesses and becoming enemies to Troy ever since.

The most magnificent young woman in the world was "Helen," Queen of Sparta, whose husband was King Menelaus, but Paris traveled to Sparta and took Helen back to Troy. Whether it was kidnapping or Helen voluntarily traveling with it, this incident was also considered a serious affront to the Greek kingdom. King Menelaus gathered kings and heroes from all over Greece, raising an army to war against Troy.

The Troy War lasted for 10 years, with many famous heroes such as Achilles, the strongest warrior of the Greeks, Odysseus, the wise king of Ithaca, and Hector, the brave prince of Troy, both sides fought fiercely, but neither side was able to overcome it.

As the war dragged on, Odysseus devised a clever plan, built a giant wooden horse and hid the skilled soldiers inside, and then pretended to withdraw. The Trojans understood that the wooden horse was the gift of victory, and dragged it into the city. But that night, the Greek soldiers hidden in the horses came out and opened the gate to the Greek army that was lurking outside, and the city of Troy fell. This is the origin of the word "Trojan Horse," which has been used to compare to the attack to the present day.

After the war ended, each of the heroes returned home, but Odysseus faced a difficult fate because he angered Poseidon, the sea god, and was cursed not to be able to travel home easily, a journey that should not take long, stretching back 10 years.

Along the way, Odysseus and his crew face many dangers, both Cyclops, a one-eyed giant named Polyphemus, who is the son of the god Poseidon; Odysseus uses a pseudo-giant cunning to escape, but the pride of mentioning his name before leaving causes Polyphemus to ask his father to curse him, resulting in the journey becoming even more fraught with obstacles.

He then has to meet the witch Cersei, who turns the crew into pigs, meets the siren, a young woman with a beautiful cry who seduces the navigator to death, so Odysseus puts the crew's ears in wax, and the self is tied to the mast of the ship to hear the music without being able to jump into the sea.

He also had to sail through a strait with the monster Skilla on one side and the giant vortex Caribdis on the other, which, whatever route he chose, lost some of its crew. It was also held on the island by the goddess Calypso for years because she was in love with him before the gods ordered his release.

Eventually, after going through countless hardships, Odysseus arrives back on the island of Ithaca, but no one remembers him, because he was disguised as a beggar; during his absence, many high-class men came forward to marry his wife, Penelope, in the hope of taking the throne.

Penelope announced that he would choose someone who could bend the bow of Odysseus and shoot arrows through the hoops of the axe, but none succeeded until a beggar asked for a try and could easily turn the bow before revealing himself to be Odysseus, then with his sons to eliminate all the men who had occupied his house and were reunited with his family after 10 years away from home.

Despite the epic Odessee being full of gods, monsters, and supernatural stories, historians believe it may be based partly on real events, particularly the War of Troy, in which the remains of an ancient city believed to possibly be the real city of Troy were discovered; however, the adventures of Odysseus continue to be seen as a combination of history, mythology, and imagination, to become one of the world's most influential literatures, and have also inspired countless films, games, and fiction to date.
