The Art of Love ♡ Epilogue

“If anything happens, you know who to save first right?” I overheard my mum telling my dad when I was very young. My dad nodded.

“Who!” I asked.

“All three of you children.” My mum replied.

“Wait but how can Papa save all three of us at once. He must be a superhero! He has to save one of us first. Then what about you Mama? What about you?”

I can’t remember how many questions I asked and comments I made. But I was missing the whole point - that she loved us so much she would give her life for us. And also that nothing we do, no matter how naughty or bad we were, no matter how messy or rebellious or distant we were - absolutely nothing could change her mind and her love for us.

And she made no effort to be understood and appreciated.

And that's what Good Friday is all about.

Growing up, I often misunderstood my parents’ actions, expecting them to recognize and explain their sacrifices in words. But as this story beautifully captures, love doesn’t always need to be explained or justified—it simply exists, constant and unwavering. The image of a mother willing to give her life for her children is a powerful metaphor for the selflessness often hidden in everyday parenting. Nothing we do—whether we are rebellious, distant, or difficult—can diminish a parent’s love. This unconditional love is what shapes our sense of security and belonging, even when we don’t fully grasp it as children. Good Friday, traditionally a day marking sacrifice and redemption, here takes on a new, intimate meaning. It’s a reminder of the sacrifices made quietly and without fanfare within families. This perspective encourages us to appreciate the often invisible acts of love and protection that sustain us. Personally, recognizing this has changed how I engage with my loved ones. It’s taught me patience and gratitude, understanding that love is not always about grand gestures, but about steadfast presence and acceptance. This story inspires me to express my appreciation more openly and to cherish the love I sometimes took for granted. For anyone exploring themes of family, sacrifice, and unconditional love, this epilogue offers a sincere and heartfelt reflection. It also invites us to consider the profound lessons embedded in our childhood memories and faith traditions, deepening our appreciation of love’s enduring power.
