The Art of Love ♡ Nothingness

20 Apr 2026

___Nothingness___

The art of love

Is the art of losing oneself

For pure love has no room for self

It gives its all freely

Forsaking all wrath

No matter the circumstance

No matter the cost

Seeking nothing in return

Like a fountain of water

That can only overflow

Like a broken alabaster jar

That can’t be pieced back

To love in part is to not love

Like a bed of roses

The thorns hurt more than

The fragrance; the beauty

Like the tongue of a venomous snake

I keep murdering hearts

Not out of hatred but nothingness

Nothingness is an empty void

With no hatred and no love

A vacuum of silence & lifelessness

A fountain of water that dried

Unlike hatred’s spell that drains in

Nothingness disguises in the robes of normality

But leaves me in the chains of brutality

A heart of love reaches a different nothingness

A heart of love overflows

Because it has lost all its finite depths

To reach the infinite depths

Of the Living Water

Love,

Iris

In my personal experience, embracing this 'nothingness' has meant understanding that love is not just about mutual exchange but often about selfless surrender. True love doesn’t seek possession or control; it’s a fountain overflowing beyond its own container, just like the poet describes. I’ve noticed that in relationships where love is partial or conditional, there tends to be an underlying frustration, almost like the thorns on a rose stem – the pain often outweighs the beauty. But embracing the infinite depth of love as depicted by the metaphor of the "Living Water" invites a transformative journey. This water nourishes the soul beyond the finite limits, offering renewal and hope. Moreover, the poem’s portrayal of nothingness as a vacuum without hatred or affection captures a truth that can sometimes be overlooked—emotional numbness is not the absence of feelings but a space where love and hate do not interfere, leaving a quiet, sometimes brutal stillness. Recognizing this state helped me become more compassionate toward myself and others when love felt absent or insufficient. Overall, the art of losing oneself in love, as described, challenges the ego's need for control and recompense. It teaches that pure love is freely given, risking breakage like a 'broken alabaster jar' that cannot be repaired. But out of this vulnerability arises an overflowing fullness, connecting us with a deeper source of life and love beyond ourselves.
