Working on my accent wall

So, you saw my quick peek at my new Christmas accent wall project – I'm so excited to dive deeper into how I'm bringing that festive vibe to life, especially since it involves my favorite DIY secret: peel & stick wallpaper! I initially just wanted a "focus wall" for the holidays, but it's turning into something much more than just decorating for holidays. It's a full-on room transformation, even if it's just one wall! If you're like me and love a clean, modern look, a rectangular accent wall can be super chic. Instead of covering the whole wall, you can easily create a defined rectangular panel in the center or a series of smaller rectangles. This is fantastic for adding a pop of color or pattern without overwhelming the room. I’ve seen people use decorative trim to define their rectangle first, then fill it with wallpaper, but with peel & stick, you can just measure and cut your panels precisely to create that crisp edge. Think about using a contrasting color or texture within the rectangle to really make it stand out – it instantly elevates the space! Now, about the "checkered aesthetic wallpaper" – oh my goodness, it's everywhere right now, and for good reason! It adds such a playful yet sophisticated touch to any room tour. For my wall, while I’m not doing a full checkerboard, I was definitely inspired by that graphic boldness. You can find peel & stick wallpaper pre-printed with checkerboard patterns, which is often the easiest route for that perfect checkered look. Or, if you're feeling extra crafty, you could use two different colored solid peel & stick wallpapers and cut them into squares to create your own custom checkered design! Just make sure your squares are perfectly aligned for that professional finish. It’s a bit more work, but the customization is endless, and the faux wallpaper effect is stunning. My biggest lesson so far in this project? Measure, measure, and then measure again! The OCR was spot on – I totally underestimated how much wallpaper I needed. Seriously, buy at least one extra roll than what you calculate. It's better to have a little left over than to hit a wall (pun intended!) mid-project and have to wait for a new order. When applying peel & stick wallpaper, remember to slowly peel the backing, smoothing from the center outwards to avoid bubbles, and don't be afraid to reposition it. That's the beauty of peel & stick – it's forgiving! Also, a good utility knife and a smoother tool are your best friends for neat edges and a flawless finish. Since this is my "focus wall for Christmas," I'm thinking about how the pattern complements my holiday decorations. If you've gone for a checkered or geometric pattern, it can serve as a fantastic backdrop for string lights, wreaths, or even hanging ornaments directly. The temporary nature of peel & stick means you can go bold for the holidays and switch it up later if you want a new look for spring! I’m planning to add some twinkly fairy lights around the edges of my accent area to really make it sparkle and tie into my christmas paper decor theme.
