Sometimes, it’s a vital process of healing and self-restoration. People who deeply empathize often carry the emotional burdens of those around them, which can be exhausting. When their own emotional needs are consistently put aside, they reach a point where solitude becomes necessary—not as loneliness, but as a way to recharge and remember their own feelings. This journey of self-rediscovery is crucial. It allows individuals to set boundaries, regain strength, and prioritize self-care without feeling guilty. Far from disappearing emotionally, they are simply seeking balance to eventually re-engage fully and healthily with others. Recognizing this distinction has improved my relationships significantly. It taught me to respect space as a form of love and support, rather than misinterpreting it as rejection. If you find yourself needing space or notice someone else does, consider it an opportunity for growth rather than loss. Taking time to heal emotionally leads to stronger, more meaningful connections in the long run.
