... Read moreFruit flies are a common nuisance for indoor gardeners, especially near moist soil or decaying organic matter. These tiny creatures are often not harmful to your plants, but they can indicate problems such as overwatering or poor drainage. To effectively manage fruit flies, consider reducing excess moisture, using a layer of gravel on top of the soil, or applying insect traps. Natural deterrents like vinegar traps can be quite effective as well. Ensure to check your plants regularly to maintain optimal growing conditions. Regularly inspecting for pests and diseases ensures a healthier environment for your precious houseplants. If the problem persists, you might want to reconsider your watering habits and the type of potting soil used. Creating a less hospitable environment for fruit flies can be a game changer in maintaining the health of your plants. They’re fungus gnats! Mosquito bits usually go a good job of getting rid of them but also make sure the soil dries out between waterings because the gnat larvae thrives in moist soil.
