It's okay to have gym anxiety 🫶
I’ve been working out for 7 years at commercial gyms and I have gym anxiety.
I have a degree in exercise science and I have gym anxiety.
I have worked at multiple gyms over the years and still have gym anxiety.
Here are some things I do to get over it:
1. Headphones- using headphones to drown everything out really helps me focus on my workout and my goals for the day
2. Plan my workout ahead of time- this helps me to stay focused and not wander around looking lost
3. Make friends at the gym- it’s always better if you have a friend or two when you go to the gym!
What are your tips for getting over gym anxiety?
Gym anxiety is a common experience that many individuals face, regardless of their experience level. Understanding and acknowledging this anxiety can be the first step toward overcoming it. One effective method to combat gym anxiety is by focusing on your personal fitness journey. Setting specific goals can help shift your attention away from the external environment and onto your workout. Consider engaging in activities that suit your fitness level and interests, whether it involves weightlifting, cardio, or group classes. Additionally, familiarizing yourself with the gym layout can create a sense of ease. Take a tour when the gym is less crowded or visit during off-peak hours to become comfortable with the equipment and spaces. This proactive approach may reduce feelings of intimidation. Consider utilizing online communities and forums to connect with others who share your experiences. These platforms offer a wealth of resources and support, which can help to alleviate feelings of isolation. Finally, remember that everyone in the gym started somewhere. Embracing the idea that you are not alone in experiencing gym anxiety can provide immense relief. By capturing the support of friends, planning your workouts, and introducing comforting elements like music, you can transform your gym visits into positive experiences.
