It's fascinating to see them side-by-side, showcasing centuries of history and devotion. I also loved seeing the smaller chapels and gardens around the main plaza. It felt like a spiritual oasis amidst the bustling city. If you're planning a visit, I have a few tips to make your experience smoother. First, wear comfortable shoes – you'll be doing a fair bit of walking around the grounds. Second, try to go early in the morning, especially on weekends, to avoid the biggest crowds. The atmosphere is more serene then. Third, remember it's an active place of worship, so dress respectfully. I saw people from all walks of life, from pilgrims on their knees to families just taking in the beauty. The vibrant colors, the reverence, and even the sight of the grand Mexican flag often displayed proudly nearby, all contributed to an unforgettable moment.
