My Gallery Wall Tips

I love a gallery wall but they can be tough to put together, especially if your taste is a little eclectic (like mine is!)

Here are some of my tips for a gallery wall!

1) Different sizes and shapes for whatever you're hanging! I think the best gallery walls don't have too many things that look too similar. So if you have 3 frames - 2 black and 1 brown - I'd separate the black frames

2) Different textures on the wall! I like a framed photo or art work gallery wall ofc but I think hanging up art that has different textures really makes it look special. I like to hang embroidery and in the pic above, I've hung up my grandmother's antique spoon collection

3) Themes can be fun! The wall in the pic above is in my dining room so I grabbed my arts that were food or dining related to start - so the coffee print, cats making french press, champagne art, When Harry Met Sally at the diner poster - and then I filled in the gaps!

4) Start with your larger pieces! This is practical advice because it's going to be harder to find a place for it later and it's going to draw eyes whether you like it or not

Those are my tips! I do a lot of trial and error though admittedly. What do you do for your wall decor?

... Read moreCreating a gallery wall can feel like a big puzzle, especially when you want it to look effortlessly cool and personal. Beyond just hanging things up, it's about curating a space that truly reflects you. If you're wondering how to arrange everything or what unique items to include, I’ve got some more pointers for you! Mastering Your Layout: No More Guesswork! One of the biggest concerns I hear is about spacing and layout. Before I even think about hammering a nail, I always plan my arrangement on the floor first. Cut out paper templates for each piece of art or decor you have, then arrange them on the floor in front of your wall. This lets you experiment with different configurations, find your focal points, and ensure you love the balance before committing. For the space between pictures, a good rule of thumb is to keep frames 2-4 inches apart. This creates a cohesive look without making the wall feel too cluttered or too sparse. Think about creating visual pathways that guide the eye across your collection, rather than just lining things up. Beyond Prints: Curating Your Eclectic Collection When it comes to what to put on your wall, don’t limit yourself to just framed prints! The beauty of an eclectic gallery wall, like mine with its diverse artworks and photos, is the variety. I love incorporating mixed media. For instance, my spoon collection adds an unexpected, textural element that sparks conversation. You could also include textiles, small mirrors, vintage signs (imagine an old 'Champagne Bar' sign!), or even small shelves with curated objects. If you're dreaming of an 'art collector home gallery wall,' you don't need a huge budget. I find unique pieces at local craft fairs, thrift stores, and online marketplaces. For a 'movie gallery wall' like mine, hunt for vintage movie stills, film posters, or even framed ticket stubs from a memorable cinema experience. Don't forget, 'coffee-themed art' or other themed pieces can really tie your wall together and tell a story about your passions. Making It Truly Yours: The Personal Touch Remember, your gallery wall is a reflection of you. Don't be afraid to mix high and low, old and new. The OCR mentioned my wall showcasing different sizes, shapes, and textures – that diversity is key! It creates visual interest and makes the wall feel lived-in and loved. Whether it's a cherished family photo, a piece of art you picked up on vacation, or something completely unexpected, if it brings you joy, it belongs on your wall. Ultimately, the best gallery walls are those that evolve over time, much like our own stories. So, have fun with it, be bold, and let your personality shine through every piece you choose!
