Life of a nail tech
I dread nail days on because it takes me HOURS to do my nails 🥲💌 Brand:prettyinpolishbykeke
You know, when I said I dread nail days because it takes me hours to do my own nails, I wasn't kidding! It’s a common sentiment among us nail techs. After a full day of making other people's nails look fabulous, SOMETIMES I WISH I COULD JUST wave a magic wand and have my own perfectly done. But that's just one tiny peek into the very real, very demanding, yet incredibly rewarding life of a nail technician. Most people see the glamour, the intricate designs, and the beautiful results, but there's so much more that goes into a nail tech's day. My typical morning starts even before the first client walks in. It’s all about preparation: meticulously sanitizing all my tools, setting up my station with fresh towels and products, and reviewing my appointment book for the day's schedule. Knowing what services are coming up helps me mentally prepare and gather specific polishes or art supplies. Once clients start arriving, my duties become a blend of artistry, customer service, and technical skill. Each appointment begins with a thorough consultation. I listen to what the client wants, assess their nail health, and offer suggestions. This isn’t just about painting nails; it’s about understanding their lifestyle, preferences, and sometimes, even being a confidante. From basic manicures and pedicures to complex gel extensions, intricate acrylic designs, or delicate nail art, every service demands focus and precision. I'm constantly shaping, filing, buffing, applying, and curing, ensuring every detail is perfect. A huge part of the job description, which often goes unnoticed, is maintaining impeccable hygiene. Sterilization is paramount to protect both myself and my clients. Between each client, there's a mini-reset: cleaning up spills, disinfecting surfaces, and preparing for the next person. It’s a constant cycle of creative work followed by meticulous cleaning. Then there are the unexpected challenges. Some days are just back-to-back, leaving little time for a break. My back aches, my eyes feel strained from focusing on tiny details, and sometimes you encounter clients who are difficult to please or have unrealistic expectations. There are moments when you feel creatively drained, wondering where the next inspiration will come from. It’s during these times I truly wish I could just press pause and recharge. Beyond the hands-on work, there's a lot of administrative stuff too. Managing bookings, replying to messages, ordering supplies, keeping up with the latest trends and techniques – it all adds up. I often spend evenings practicing new designs or taking online courses to refine my skills. It's a continuous learning journey to stay competitive and offer the best to my clients. Despite the long hours and physical demands, there’s an immense satisfaction in being a nail tech. Seeing a client's face light up after a beautiful transformation, knowing I've helped them feel a little more confident or pampered, makes all the hard work worth it. It’s a career that allows for artistic expression, personal connection, and the joy of making people feel good. So, while I might still dread doing my own nails after a long day, I wouldn't trade the 'day in the life' of a nail technician for anything.
