How I went full platinum
So I’ve been seeing some posts floating around again on TikTok (RIP my favorite app) talking about trying to go super light.
Mind you I have naturally curly hair, and it’s been blow dried so it’s going to look fluffier than usual.
But the secret in doing this in 24 hours was CHARCOAL BLEACH(I used ion’s)
I did two rounds both with 20 volume. The first round for the growth I’ve had since June.
And a second round to lighten the newer portion since it was fairly yellow. And blending into the older bleached portions to blend it out.
Some T18 toner(yeah yeah it’s definitely over used) and a TEENY TINY amount of Pulp Riot’s nevermore just to add a little more blue based purple and I’m SET#curlyblonde #blonde #platinum hair #bleachblonde #charcoal
Achieving that stunning platinum silver look on naturally curly hair, like my own transformation, is truly rewarding but also a delicate dance! While the initial bleach and tone process gets you there, maintaining those vibrant silver tones and keeping your curls healthy is a whole journey in itself. I want to share some extra tips I've learned to help you keep your newly lightened 'fluffy, light platinum blonde hair' looking its best, especially if you're starting from 'dark, curly hair with regrowth' like I did. First, pre-bleach preparation is non-negotiable for curly hair. Our curls are naturally drier and more fragile than straight hair, so they need all the love they can get before a chemical process. For a few weeks leading up to my bleach day, I focused heavily on deep conditioning treatments. Think rich hair masks with ingredients like shea butter, argan oil, or protein (if your hair needs it, but be careful not to overdo protein before bleaching). I also made sure to avoid washing my hair for at least 2-3 days before bleaching. The natural oils provide a small, but mighty, layer of protection for your scalp during the process. And please, always do a strand test and patch test! It’s crucial to see how your individual curls react and to avoid any skin irritation. Once you’ve got your beautiful platinum silver curly hair, the real work of maintenance begins! Moisture, moisture, moisture is the mantra. Bleaching can strip a lot of moisture, potentially leaving your curls feeling a bit parched or even altering your curl pattern. Invest in a good quality, sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo and conditioner designed for color-treated hair. I swear by leave-in conditioners and hair oils to seal in hydration after washing. Weekly deep conditioning masks are now a permanent fixture in my routine – they help restore elasticity and shine, keeping those curls bouncy. To combat brassiness and keep that gorgeous silver color vibrant, purple or blue toning products are your best friend. Depending on whether your platinum leans more yellow (requiring purple toner) or orange (requiring blue toner), incorporating a toning shampoo or mask once a week, or as needed, will neutralize unwanted warm tones. Just be careful not to overuse them, as they can sometimes deposit too much pigment or dry out your hair if left on too long. Always follow the instructions! I know from experience that bleached curly hair can sometimes feel a bit 'fluffy' or lose some definition, especially after the initial process and blow-drying. To bring back those beautiful curl clumps, focus on styling products that offer hydration and hold without weighing your hair down. A good curl cream, gel, or mousse can make a world of difference. When drying, try air-drying or using a diffuser on a low heat setting to encourage your natural curl pattern to form. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase or wrapping your hair in a silk scarf can also dramatically reduce frizz and protect your delicate curls overnight. Finally, managing regrowth is part of the platinum silver journey. As your 'dark, curly hair' grows out, you'll need to decide on your retouch schedule. For me, it's typically every 6-8 weeks to keep things looking seamless. When doing touch-ups, be super careful to only apply bleach to the new growth to avoid overlapping onto already lightened hair, which can cause breakage. Embracing platinum silver curly hair is a commitment, but with these extra steps for care and maintenance, you can absolutely rock this stunning look while keeping your curls healthy and happy!
