🌱Ph.D. at 28: My Growth Mindset Journey✨
Becoming a PhD at 28, while raising two babies, relocating with my husband, writing/publishing a book, and working full-time in corporate, was a journey filled with challenges, but also incredible growth and resilience. As the first in my family to go to college, I had to navigate everything on my own for a long time. Despite the difficulties, especially for women—Black women—in these spaces, I embraced a growth mindset that transformed my perspective and path.
Instead of focusing on what I lacked, I chose to enjoy the learning journey. I accepted that things were tough but decided to push through while prioritizing my mental health, setting boundaries, cherishing my family, and building community. Embracing lifelong learning meant welcoming both successes and failures as part of my growth, without taking the losses personally.
Here are some tips for adopting a growth mindset early in life to reach your goals and dreams:
1. Embrace Challenges: See obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as setbacks.
2. Prioritize Mental Health: Take care of your mental well-being and set boundaries to maintain a healthy balance.
3. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate every step forward, no matter how small.
4. Learn from Failures: View failures as valuable lessons and stepping stones to success.
5. Stay Curious: Cultivate a love for learning and stay open to new experiences and knowledge.
Remember, it’s not about where you start but how you embrace the journey. Keep pushing forward, and you’ll achieve amazing things! 💪🏾✨

Pursuing a PhD while managing a busy life can seem daunting, yet it exemplifies resilience and determination. A growth mindset is pivotal in overcoming obstacles. Individuals, especially women, can find themselves facing various societal and personal hurdles. Embracing challenges as opportunities leads to significant personal development. This journey requires a deep commitment to mental health, and balancing responsibilities is crucial. Setting boundaries can help avoid overwhelm, allowing for a healthier outlook on both academic and familial requirements. Another vital aspect is the celebration of progress. Acknowledging achievements, no matter how small, reinforces positive habits and boosts motivation. It’s also important to understand that failures provide valuable lessons. Viewing setbacks as stepping stones fosters a culture of learning that is essential for long-term success. Staying curious is the final pillar of a growth mindset—by nurturing a love for learning, individuals open themselves to new experiences that can transform their journey. Remember, it's not just about the end goal but the growth along the way.
