school spirit and happiness!

the last two days have been go go go!!! my oldest daughters first homecoming week/spirit week is in the books! thursday was a full circle moment for me, because i remember my first few homecoming weeks and parade and my core memory from it is receiving so many handshakes from the sweaty hands of the football players! and my daughters had that moment now! i asked her what her favorite part of the parade was and she said CANDY! 😂 when i asked her again and besides the candy, she couldn’t choose, she loved every part of it! 💙🤍 i love that i had my youngest participate as much as she could, even though she’s not old enough to be in school. i am grateful that i was able to get my shift covered so i could walk with my daughter to the parade and that my sister was able to come with too! living in a small town, you have your problems, you have your drama, but you also have that small town pride and everybody brings their excitement!

... Read moreSeeing our kids light up during their first high school spirit days like homecoming week is truly one of life's greatest joys. It's more than just a parade or dressing up; it's about building a sense of belonging and community that lasts a lifetime. For me, witnessing my daughter's excitement brought back a flood of cherished memories from my own youth, creating that wonderful full-circle moment that many parents dream of. School spirit isn't just for the students; it's a feeling that resonates through the entire community, especially in a small town. When everyone rallies around their local school, whether it's cheering for the 'Huskies' in their school spirit t-shirts or helping decorate for a themed day, it strengthens bonds and instills pride. This collective energy encourages students to feel more connected to their school, leading to a more positive and engaging learning environment. It’s about creating an atmosphere where every student feels seen, valued, and excited to be part of something bigger. So, how can we, as parents and community members, really help improve school spirit? It starts with active participation. Don't just drop off your kids; get involved! Volunteer for events, attend games, or even just show up to cheer on the parade. My experience walking with my daughter and seeing the joy on her face, and how much my youngest loved joining in, proved that even small actions make a huge difference. Encourage your children to participate in themed spirit week dress-up days, help them craft posters, or simply share stories of your own spirit in school memories. These shared experiences become precious family traditions. Beyond the iconic homecoming parade, spirit week often features a variety of activities designed to boost morale. From themed dress-up days like 'Decades Day' or 'Pajama Day' to pep rallies, sporting events, and talent shows, there are countless ways for students to show their enthusiasm. Some schools even organize community service projects during this time, teaching students the importance of giving back while fostering unity. Learning about these diverse options can help students find their niche and contribute in ways that genuinely excite them. For those of us navigating the busy juggle of life, finding peace amidst the chaos is key. Sometimes, it's those simple 'car rides + loud music = peace' moments, or just a quiet reflection, that help us recharge so we can fully embrace these community events. Being present for these high school spirit days not only benefits our children but also enriches our own lives, reminding us of the joy of community. It's a reminder that we are all 'worth keeping, worth committing to, worth making a priority' within our communities, and that our active participation helps weave the vibrant tapestry of collective memory. Let’s keep creating these unforgettable memories, fostering a strong sense of school spirit for generations to come.
