26th book read: Remarkably Bright Creatures

Adapted by Netflix- I had to read it first!

This book completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. I went into it expecting something light and quirky because of the octopus… but it turned out to be such a heartfelt, emotional, and beautifully written story about grief, loneliness, healing, and unexpected connection.

The characters felt so real and comforting, and Marcellus honestly stole the entire book for me. His chapters were witty, intelligent, and somehow emotional at the same time. The story unfolds slowly, but in a way that makes you feel attached to every single character by the end.

If you’re someone who usually reads thrillers like me, this was the perfect palate cleanser while still keeping me emotionally invested the entire time. Quietly powerful and absolutely worth the hype.

The octopus Marcellus is far more than just a quirky character; his intelligence and witty narration add layers of depth that made me reflect on the ways we cope with loss and loneliness. What stood out to me was how the story develops slowly, allowing you to form genuine connections with each character. This pacing makes the emotional payoff much more impactful, as you truly feel the characters’ growth and healing. It's a refreshing change of pace from fast-paced thrillers, offering a contemplative experience while still holding your interest deeply. Additionally, the novel touches on themes of interspecies connection and empathy, showing how even unlikely friendships can bring solace and understanding. It made me think about the importance of opening up to new perspectives and finding comfort in unexpected places. If you're curious about the Netflix adaptation, I think reading the book first is a rewarding way to appreciate the nuanced storytelling and rich character development. Overall, this title offers not just entertainment but also a heartfelt exploration of human emotions, making it a truly remarkable read that's worth the hype.
