This is my motto for 2024….what is yours?

It's time to say #L8R2023
Starting a new year always feels like a fresh page, doesn't it? For me, 2024 is all about 'doing it for myself' and 'coming into this stronger.' That's why I've embraced a core life motto, guided by what I like to call my '7 Rules of Life.' A motto isn't just a catchy phrase; it's a principle, a guiding star that helps you navigate challenges and stay true to your path. It's like a short, meaningful statement or even a simple phrase that encapsulates your beliefs or aspirations. Many people, whether they're students looking for inspiration or just someone seeking a positive outlook, find power in having a motto. My personal motto for this year draws heavily from these 7 rules, which I believe are essential for a positive, happy, and successful life. They've helped me immensely, and I hope they resonate with you too! 1. Make peace with your past. This one is huge. It doesn't mean forgetting or excusing everything, but rather accepting what has happened, learning from it, and releasing its hold on your present. For me, it means letting go of old regrets and focusing my energy on what I can change today. 2. What others think of you is none of your business. Oh, how liberating this rule is! We spend so much time worrying about external validation. But truly, your worth isn't determined by someone else's opinion. This year, I'm focusing on my authenticity and growth, not on pleasing everyone. 3. Time heals almost everything. Give it time. In our fast-paced world, we often expect instant solutions. But some wounds, some changes, just need patience. I've learned that allowing myself the grace of time to process, recover, and grow is incredibly important. Healing isn't linear, and that's okay. 4. No one is in charge of your happiness except you. This is a powerful reminder to take ownership of my emotional well-being. It means actively seeking out joy, setting healthy boundaries, and not placing the burden of my happiness on others. My happiness is my responsibility, and that's incredibly empowering. 5. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. With social media, it's so easy to fall into the comparison trap. But everyone's path is unique. I remind myself that my journey is mine alone, and focusing on my own progress brings far more fulfillment than envying someone else's highlight reel. 6. Stop thinking too much. It's alright not to know all the answers. Overthinking can be a real joy-killer. This rule encourages me to trust my instincts, take action even when things aren't perfectly clear, and embrace a bit of uncertainty. Sometimes, the best way forward is simply to stop analyzing and start doing. 7. Smile. You don't own all the problems in the world. A simple smile can change your day and even someone else's. It's a reminder to find gratitude in the small things, to not get overwhelmed by global issues, and to approach life with a lighter heart. A little positivity goes a long way. So, how do you find your motto? Start by reflecting on what truly matters to you. What values do you want to embody? What challenges do you want to overcome? Maybe it's a short motto like "Grow through what you go through," or "Be kind, be brave." For students, it could be "Effort conquers all" or "Learn something new every day." Think about what inspires you, what helps you push forward, and what kind of person you want to be. Your motto can evolve, but having one provides incredible clarity and motivation. What's your guiding principle for 2024?
