OPOSSUM POUCHES!
Opossum Diaries ➡️
They’re HIS bags now! ➡️
Ollie either wanted the bags to smell like him, or him to smell like the bags. 🤭🤷♂️
Opossums are fascinating creatures, known for their distinctive pouches which females use to carry and protect their young. However, male opossums don't have pouches, which makes Ollie's behavior of marking bags as "his" particularly interesting. From my experience observing possums, they often investigate and interact with objects by scent-marking them—this helps establish territory or familiarity. In this case, Ollie might be transferring his scent to these bags or vice versa, indicating a playful or curious personality rather than protective maternal behavior. It's amazing how animals can develop unique attachments to inanimate objects, much like pets do with toys or beds. If you're caring for an opossum or any wildlife, it's important to recognize these subtle behaviors as part of their natural instincts and ensure their environment is enriching and engaging. Additionally, if you find opossums adopting human items, it could be a sign of their adaptability and intelligence. Sharing these observations helps foster a deeper appreciation for these often misunderstood creatures!

Such sweet babies. I wish people weren’t so mean to them. 🥰
