this book was nice “who dunnit” type of mystery when one of the university professor’s wives was poisoned at a party. the party was in celebration of the university excursion to brazil for research. saffron everleigh, recent graduate and research assistant is determined to find out what happened, if the suspect was framed, and she can’t do it without the help of professor ashton. playing detective, using her botany specialty and skill, she refuses to give the case up. i loved the writing style, the slow burn romance that wasn’t TOO sappy. this is apart of a series which i would absolutely love to continue reading!! highly recommended for a light academia feel, if you enjoy botany, poisons, mystery, and an easy story!!

... Read moreWhen I picked up 'A Botanist's Guide to Parties and Poisons,' I was immediately drawn in by the promise of a botanical mystery, and Kate Khavari delivered spectacularly. The original review mentioned it’s a part of a series, and trust me, you'll be as eager as I am to continue Saffron Everleigh’s adventures! This book isn't just a standalone 'who dunnit'; it's the captivating beginning of what I hope will be many more Saffron Everleigh mysteries. If you’re searching for the 'a botanist's guide to parties and poisons series order,' you’re in the right place – this is where it all begins, and it sets a brilliant foundation for future installments. Saffron Everleigh herself is truly the heart of this story. As a botanist, her unique perspective on the world, especially when it comes to identifying strange 'poison' or unusual plant specimens, makes her an incredibly compelling detective. Her botany specialty isn't just a quirky detail; it's central to how she unravels the intricate plot. I found myself fascinated by how she connects subtle botanical clues to the larger crime, using her knowledge of plants – from delicate flowers to deadly toxins – to piece together what happened. The dynamic between Saffron and Professor Ashton also adds a delightful layer to the 'saffron everleigh mystery,' providing both intellectual sparring and that lovely slow-burn romance the original review highlighted. For anyone intrigued by the 'botanist's guide' aspect or wanting to dive deeper into the world of 'potions and poisons study guide' fiction, this book is a fantastic choice. Khavari doesn't just mention poisons; she integrates real botanical knowledge into Saffron's detective work, making the science feel authentic and crucial to the plot. The way a seemingly innocuous plant or a specific type of flower can become a key piece of evidence is truly brilliant. The dark botanical design on the cover, featuring a mysterious bottle and various flowers, perfectly reflects the book's blend of academic setting and underlying danger. What I particularly loved about this book, beyond the clever mystery, is the 'light academia' feel. It’s comforting yet intellectually stimulating, making it a perfect read for a cozy evening. If you enjoyed this blend of historical setting, scientific detail, and a compelling mystery, I'd highly recommend looking for other historical fiction novels that feature strong, intelligent female protagonists in unique fields. Kate Khavari has crafted a world and a character that are easy to fall for, and I genuinely can't wait to see what Saffron Everleigh investigates next in her series. It’s a definite must-read for any mystery lover, especially those with a soft spot for botanical intrigue!
