Shy girl leg day! Smith machine only!

Shy girl or not, this workout is a must! I was working out at a new gym and felt very shy and had a bit of gymidation so I spotted a smith machine and stayed there for my whole workout!

The exercises hit exactly how I needed them to and the pump was giving!

1) Sumo Squat: 4 sets of 8-10 reps! Start lighter while you aim for 10 reps and then add weight each set and aim for that 8-10 rep range!

2) Romanian Deadlift: 4 sets of 10-12 reps! In the picture, you will see I used a resistance band, this is not needed but if you want to add a bit of a challenge, you can add more resistance with the band!

3) Leg Press: 3 sets of 10! Laying on the ground and placing the bar in the middle of your foot, unlatch the bar from the safety hatch and begin to bring your knees towards your chest.

4) Hip thrust: 4 sets of 8-10 reps! Keeping your reps slow and controlled and really squeezing your glutes at the top for best engagement!

5) Reverse lunges: 4x6-8 reps! Aiming to go heavier on these with a lower rep count! I added a plate in front to make these deficit lunges and to target more of my hamstrings and glutes!

The smith machine is one of my favorite pieces of equipment because it is so versatile and you can do so much on it while seeing awesome results! Try this workout out on your next leg day!

... Read moreWhen I first started hitting the gym, the Smith machine quickly became my best friend, especially during those days I felt a little "gymidation" – you know, that shy feeling in a new environment. It's truly a game-changer for a shy gym girl or anyone looking for a stable, safe way to build incredible leg gains and sculpt their glutes and quads. If you've been hesitant about free weights or just want to feel more secure during your smith machine leg day, this machine offers fantastic stability, allowing you to focus purely on executing each movement with perfect form. It's why I stuck with it for my entire workout, and let me tell you, the pump was real! Let's dive deeper into some form tips for these essential exercises to make sure you're getting the most out of your smith machine workout: Sumo Squat (4 sets of 8-10 reps): This isn't just any squat; it's fantastic for really targeting your inner thighs and powerful glutes. Set your feet wider than shoulder-width apart, toes pointed outwards at about a 45-degree angle. As you lower down, keep your chest up and back straight, pushing your knees out in line with your toes. Think about sitting back as if into a chair. The Smith machine guides your path, so you can really focus on that deep stretch and squeeze in your glutes at the top. Remember to start lighter to perfect your form before adding weight. Romanian Deadlift (RDL) (4 sets of 10-12 reps): This move is a powerhouse for your hamstrings and glutes. The key here is the hip hinge, not a squat. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, a slight bend in your knees (which stays constant). With the bar close to your shins, push your hips back as if you're trying to touch a wall behind you. Keep your back flat and core engaged. You should feel a deep stretch in your hamstrings. Only go as low as you can without rounding your back. I sometimes use a resistance band around my knees for extra glute activation, but it's totally optional for beginners. Leg Press (3 sets of 10 reps): Using the Smith machine as a leg press while lying on the ground is surprisingly effective! Make sure the bar is positioned over the middle of your feet for optimal leverage. Unrack the bar and slowly bring your knees towards your chest, controlling the weight. When pushing back up, drive through your heels and squeeze your quads. You can adjust your foot placement slightly – higher and wider targets more glutes and hamstrings, while lower and narrower emphasizes the quads. Always be mindful of your lower back and maintain core engagement throughout. Hip Thrust (4 sets of 8-10 reps): If you want to build strong, rounded glutes, hip thrusts are non-negotiable! Set up with your upper back on a bench, the Smith machine bar across your hips (use a pad!), and your feet flat on the floor, about shoulder-width apart, with knees bent. Drive through your heels, lifting your hips towards the ceiling until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees. Squeeze your glutes hard at the top for a count, then slowly lower back down. Slow and controlled reps are crucial for maximum glute engagement here. Reverse Lunges (4 sets of 6-8 reps): These are fantastic for unilateral leg strength and hitting both your hamstrings and glutes. With the Smith machine, you get that added stability, which is great for focusing on the movement. Step back with one leg, lowering your back knee towards the ground until both knees are at a 90-degree angle. Push through your front heel to return to the starting position. Adding a plate under your front foot for deficit lunges, like I do, really increases the range of motion and intensifies the glute and hamstring stretch. Remember to keep your core tight and maintain good posture. By focusing on these form cues and staying consistent, you'll be amazed at the results you can achieve with just a Smith machine. Don't let gym anxiety hold you back; embrace the stability and focus on becoming stronger!
