Homemade Bone Broth

I've been making homemade bone broth for years now and it saves me so much money! You can even use this same technique for vegetable broth but it only has to be cooked for 1 hour. This saves me money because we freeze all our veggie and meat bone scraps.

For example, every time you cut the ends off your carrots, onion, and celery, save the ends and freeze them. After several weeks, you should have cups of vegetable scraps to add to bone broth or make your own veggie broth with.

I personally think if you core tomatoes, you should also keep the cores and freeze, because it makes the broth taste so much better! This technique is such a great way to save money and get a rich and healthy bone broth that tastes so much better then store bought!

Using kitchen scraps like vegetable ends (carrot, onion, celery) and meat bones, you can create a nutrient-dense broth. To get started, combine your leftovers in a pot and cover with water. Cooking methods vary; you can use a slow cooker, Instant Pot, or stovetop. For a flavorful twist, adding scraps like tomato cores enriches the broth's taste. It's essential to opt for organic meat bones, as they contain fewer harmful substances. Cooking time can range from 1 hour for vegetable broth to 18+ hours for bone broth. Once done, you'll notice the bones crumble easily, signaling a rich and flavorful broth. Not only is homemade broth generally tastier than store-bought options, but it also provides benefits like improved gut health and collagen for skin care. So start saving those scraps and enjoy the numerous health benefits of your homemade concoction!
