🧼 How I Keep My Trash Can Clean & Smelling Fresh
I used to avoid cleaning my trash can until it got really bad - now I just do this once or twice a month and it never gets gross anymore. Here’s how I do it:
✔️ I rinse it out with hot soapy water
✔️ Scrub the inside (especially the bottom corners)
✔️ Let it dry completely
✔️ Then I sprinkle in baking soda + a couple drops of essential oil
I also line the bottom with paper towels to soak up any leaks, - it helps a lot with smell.
Quick and easy, and my kitchen always smells fresher now. Highly recommend! 🫧

Cleaning your trash can might feel like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. Start by taking your trash can outdoors to avoid mess. Make a soapy mixture with hot water and dish soap; spray it inside and out, allowing it to sit for a few minutes to loosen grime. For scrubbing, use a sponge for the interior and an old toothbrush for those hard-to-reach crevices. Rinse thoroughly with a hose or shower head. To keep your trash can smelling fresh, sprinkle baking soda in the bottom once it’s dry. Consider lining the base with paper towels to absorb leaks, which can contribute to unpleasant odors. For extra deodorizing, add a few drops of essential oil to the baking soda. Implement a routine where you wipe down the lid and exterior weekly, and give it a thorough clean every three months. With these quick and easy steps, your kitchen will not only stay cleaner but also feel fresher. Emphasizing consistency in cleaning will yield great results for a healthy home!

These are great tips. I use newspapers (those free ones that come in the mail, specifically) to catch any leaks.
