One year ago today… my world changed forever.
Today makes one year since I found out my son Makai has Stage 5 kidney failure.
I remember that moment like it just happened. The words didn’t even feel real. As a parent, you always think you can fix everything… but this was something I couldn’t fight with strength only faith.
This past year hasn’t been easy.
We’ve had hospital days, long nights, prayers, fear, and tears nobody sees.
But I’ve also seen something stronger than anything I’ve ever known…
Him.
His smile when he doesn’t feel good.
His courage when things are hard.
His heart. His strength. His spirit.
He’s taught me what real strength looks like.
If you’ve ever supported, prayed, shared, or even just sent love thank you. It means more than you know.
Just hug your kids a little tighter tonight. Life can change in a moment.
Living with a child diagnosed with Stage 5 kidney failure is an experience that profoundly reshapes daily life and perspective. Over the past year, beyond hospital visits and medical challenges, I've learned that caregiving requires more than medical knowledge—it demands emotional resilience and a support system that uplifts both the patient and the family. Managing the complexities of this condition involves navigating treatments such as dialysis, dietary restrictions, and constant monitoring, but the emotional journey is equally intense. Through this journey, I've come to understand how critical faith and community support are. Whether it's friends reaching out with encouraging messages, fellow parents sharing advice, or simply the act of sending love, every gesture serves as a vital source of strength. My son's bravery in the face of discomfort and uncertainty has been a daily lesson in courage, teaching me to appreciate small victories like his smile on difficult days. For parents facing similar trials, it’s important to acknowledge the emotional toll and seek help when needed. Joining support groups focused on kidney disease can provide invaluable information and emotional relief. Additionally, taking moments to cherish family bonds—like hugging your kids a little tighter—can bring comfort when life feels overwhelming. This experience has shown me that while we may not be able to fix everything, we can cultivate hope and resilience through faith, love, and community.
