I’m not a designer but at a certain point these designers are mocking us right ??
Okay, let's be real for a moment. I keep seeing these so-called 'designer' items, and honestly, sometimes I just think, "Are they mocking us?" It's one thing to push boundaries with avant-garde bags, but when does 'innovative' cross the line into just plain poorly designed bag territory? I HATE TO SAY IT..., but some of these creations, especially in the realm of designer small leather goods, make me question the entire industry. Take the Balenciaga Trash Bag Large Pouch, for example. I saw it listed for $2,265 – a literal trash bag, albeit a luxurious Black leather one, priced higher than many people's monthly rent. My first thought was, "THESE BAGS ARE FKIN UGLY!" Is it a commentary on consumerism? A statement about luxury in everyday objects? Or just an elaborate prank on those willing to pay such an exorbitant price? It really makes you evaluate the luxury fashion company Balenciaga on its recent design choices. I understand that fashion is art, and art is subjective. But when we talk about a practical item like a handbag, there's an expectation of functionality and a certain aesthetic appeal that, for me, is often missing in these controversial pieces. While some might argue these are brilliant examples of avant-garde bags, pushing the limits of what we perceive as stylish or valuable, I can't help but feel a sense of disconnect. Where's the craftsmanship that justifies a $2,000+ price tag on something resembling a garbage sack? Is it the material? Is it the 'artistic vision' of the designer? Or is it simply the brand name itself that commands such a price? It's not just Balenciaga, either, though their 'Trash Bag Large Pouch' is a prime example. We've seen other items from various brands that spark similar debates. On one hand, you have timeless pieces like the LOUIS VUITTON Neverfull Bandoulière, which, while expensive, has a recognizable design, history, and perceived utility. On the other, you have these new waves of 'ironic' or 'ugly chic' accessories that leave many of us bewildered. Are we supposed to appreciate the audacity? Or just accept that luxury has become so detached from traditional notions of beauty and quality? For me, evaluating the luxury fashion company Balenciaga and others comes down to more than just aesthetics. It's about value. Does a truly avant-garde piece offer something beyond shock value? Does it innovate in materials, construction, or functionality? Or is it simply trading on controversy to generate buzz? I'm not a designer, but at a certain point, it feels like these designers are testing the limits of what consumers will accept, or perhaps even celebrating the absurdity of luxury consumption. What do you all think? Are these masterpieces of modern design, or are we being played?
