The Roommate That Changed Everything
This started as a six-year friendship. There was trust, history and comfort. He moved in for mutual benefit:
cheap rent so he could save, and less financial pressure on me.
It was never meant to be permanent. 4–6 months max. That was the agreement. Then it became more, it was deeper, spiritual. For a short while, it felt good.
Easy. Familiar. Safe. I let myself believe this time was different.
And then I got ghosted…in my own home. He stopped coming home. Stopped communicating. Stopped contributing. Eventually, I was paying for everything,
the rent, the utilities, the groceries, the household, all
while being told I needed to do more.
Be more motivating.
Be more seductive.
Wear more lingerie.
As if my body was the missing piece to someone who had already checked out. That’s when the fog lifted.
This wasn’t partnership. It was entitlement.Narcissism dressed up as confidence. And I was slowly shrinking to keep the peace.
The breaking point wasn’t a fight. It was the quiet realization that I felt alone in my own home, funding a life that wasn’t being shared.
So I chose myself. I chose boundaries over potential.
Clarity over chaos. And strength over survival patterns I learned in past traumatic relationships.
This time, I didn’t abandon myself. Love shouldn’t cost you your peace, your money, or your identity.
Your home should feel safe. And choosing yourself is never the wrong choice.
This chapter changed everything. It taught me exactly what I will never accept again. I’m too old to have anyone in my home unless it’s a husband at this point. You don’t need a man to live a soft life. You create it around your softness. ✨
