Start Small, Start Shitty
My life mantra: start small, start shitty. 💩🏃♀️✨
I’ve been sharing all my good runs lately, so I thought it was time to show you my very first run ever. I was doing Couch to 5K, but it felt more like couch to cardiac arrest. My first run? Five minutes. And those five minutes were BRUTAL. But it was over in five minutes. Then I showed up again the next day for another five minutes.
SLOWLY but surely, five minutes turned into seven, then ten. It wasn’t impressive, but it didn’t need to be. Those small, messy runs added up, and now I can run for a lot longer than five minutes.
With New Year’s resolutions around the corner, remember: you don’t have to crush it on Day 1. Just start! Start small, messy, imperfect, SHITTY. The magic happens when you keep going.
What’s something you’re starting? I’d love to hear in the comments! ⬇️
Taking the first step can often be the hardest part of any journey, especially when it comes to fitness and running. Many people have experienced the struggle of starting a new exercise routine, and it's common for beginners to feel overwhelmed. The journey from doing Couch to 5K can feel daunting, but it's crucial to remember that progress comes in small increments. Starting with just five minutes, as indicated in the OCR data, shows that everyone can begin somewhere, and over time, these small efforts amount to significant developments. It's not about how impressive the start is; it's about consistency and showing up for yourself each day. As mentioned, the journey eventually led to being able to run for 5.5 miles, showcasing the incredible capabilities of our bodies when we stay committed to the process. This approach can be applied to many facets of life, be it creative pursuits, professional endeavors, or personal challenges. As New Year's resolutions begin filling our minds, taking a page from this narrative encourages us to set realistic goals, emphasizing that perfection isn't required on day one. Allowing for mistakes and messiness can lead to authentic growth. Ultimately, your unique path matters, and starting small can facilitate monumental change over time. Remember, every expert was once a beginner. Celebrate each small victory, and keep the momentum going!
