I analyzed my skin health Skin Analyzer. My skin score is 84. I honestly was shocked with my results cus I have always had bad hormonal acne so getting an 84 was so cool. I’ve always wondered what my skin type was, I litterally can’t wait to look into this more!
... Read moreDiscovering my skin score of 84 with the Lemon8 Skin Analyzer was a huge confidence boost, especially after years of battling hormonal acne. But what really blew me away was finally understanding my specific skin type: combination skin, with that classic oily T-zone and normal cheeks. It felt like a lightbulb moment! For so long, I was guessing what my skin needed, leading to products that either dried out my cheeks or left my T-zone shiny and prone to breakouts.
Understanding combination skin means recognizing that different areas of your face have different needs. My forehead, nose, and chin (the T-zone) tend to be oilier, more prone to enlarged pores, blackheads, and yes, those 'moderate acne' and 'healthy comedones' my report mentioned. Meanwhile, my cheeks often feel balanced, sometimes even a little dry. This duality makes skincare a bit tricky, but not impossible!
Here’s what I’ve learned and how I’ve started adapting my routine, thanks to the insights from my Lemon8 Skin Report:
1. Gentle, Targeted Cleansing:
I used to think I needed harsh cleansers to tackle the oil in my T-zone, but that just made things worse, irritating my normal cheek areas. Now, I opt for a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser for my entire face. Sometimes, I’ll spend a little extra time massaging it into my T-zone to ensure it thoroughly cleanses pores without stripping.
2. The Power of a Balancing Toner:
After cleansing, a good balancing toner is key. I apply it all over, but I sometimes use a slightly more astringent (but still gentle!) toner just on my T-zone using a cotton pad to help with oil control and minimize the appearance of pores. This targeted approach prevents my cheeks from feeling tight.
3. Strategic Serum Application:
This is where the 'zone-specific' care truly comes in. For my oily T-zone, I’ve incorporated a lightweight serum with ingredients like niacinamide or salicylic acid. These help regulate oil production and keep breakouts at bay – addressing those 'moderate acne' concerns directly. For my cheeks, especially if they’re feeling a bit dry, I might use a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid.
4. Lightweight, Hydrating Moisturizer (and sometimes two!):
Finding one moisturizer that works for both oily and normal areas can be challenging. I prefer a lightweight, non-comedogenic gel or lotion for my entire face. However, on days when my cheeks feel particularly normal or even slightly dry, I sometimes lightly layer a slightly richer, but still non-greasy, cream on just my cheekbones. The OCR report recommending "water-soluble products" really resonated here, as I've found those types of moisturizers work best for me across the board.
5. Sun Protection is Non-Negotiable:
Regardless of your skin type, daily SPF is crucial. I look for broad-spectrum sunscreens that are lightweight and won't clog pores, especially in my T-zone.
6. Addressing Specific Concerns:
My report also highlighted 'moderate dark circles' and 'mild fine lines.' While the T-zone focus is crucial, I haven't forgotten these. A good eye cream helps with the dark circles, and consistent hydration (especially around the eyes) is my go-to for those fine lines.
This journey of understanding my combination skin and its oily T-zone has been incredibly empowering. It's not about fighting my skin, but understanding its unique needs and treating each area with care. If you've been wondering about your skin type, I highly recommend using a skin analyzer. It provides such valuable insights that can truly transform your skincare routine, just like it did for mine!
You look so good ;)
