Moving!! From Texas to Maryland
A couple months ago I decided to move from Texas to Maryland, and boy has it been a roller coaster!
I have had to stay in between my fiancé and my parents house, having stuff in both places AND a storage unit. It was a pain but it’s been so worth it!
We had to drive because I needed to get my car there but before we left we hit up Whataburger one last time. Then we drove.. for 21+ hours…
We drove about 15 hours the first day, cutting through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, a little bit of Georgia, and stayed the night at an Airbnb in Tennessee! The next day we drove the rest of the way which was about 9 hours and we went through the rest of Tennessee, and Virginia until finally reaching Maryland!
I haven’t been able to unpack everything due to my fiancés sister staying with me for the week for her bday, but I’m so excited to make this new place my home!

Hey everyone! While the original post chronicled my personal adventure moving from Texas to Maryland, I know a ton of you are actually looking to make the exciting move to the Lone Star State from Maryland. Having just tackled a massive cross-country relocation, I’ve picked up so many valuable lessons that can definitely help make your journey to Texas a breeze, no matter which direction you’re coming from! First off, planning is absolutely key. When you’re preparing for a move to Texas, consider the sheer distance. Just like my 21-hour drive, you're looking at a similar marathon journey. Are you driving a U-Haul filled with your life's possessions? Think about the route carefully. You'll likely cut through states like Virginia, Tennessee, and potentially Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana before hitting Texas. Make sure to plan your overnight stops – finding a comfortable Airbnb or hotel, just like I did in Tennessee, can break up the drive and prevent burnout. It’s not just about getting there, but enjoying the journey (or at least making it bearable!). Packing smarter, not harder will save your sanity. Invest in good quality moving boxes and label everything meticulously. Trust me, when you’re facing a mountain of boxes in your new Texas home, knowing exactly what’s in each one will be a lifesaver. Keep essentials separate for the first few nights. As for the drive itself, don't forget the fun stops! If you're passing through Alabama, keep an eye out for that iconic 'Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama' sign – it's a great photo op. And when you finally cross into Texas, you have to make a stop at Buc-ee's! It’s an experience in itself, with clean restrooms, endless snack options, and quirky souvenirs. And for your first meal in Texas? Nothing beats a classic Whataburger to truly welcome you home. Once you arrive, the unpacking process begins, and it can feel overwhelming. My room was absolutely crammed with boxes for weeks! Take it one step at a time. Focus on getting your bedroom and kitchen set up first. It’s okay if everything isn’t perfectly organized right away. Remember, settling into a new home takes time. Explore your new neighborhood – whether you’re heading to the vibrant cities like Austin or Dallas, or the charming towns, Texas has so much to offer. The culture, the food, the friendly faces – it’s a whole new world! Moving is a huge undertaking, but it's also an incredible adventure. Embrace the changes, be patient with yourself, and get ready to enjoy everything the great state of Texas has in store for you. Good luck with your move, and I hope my cross-country experience, even if it was in the opposite direction, helps you feel a little more prepared!
