Saying Goodbye to my Basement Apartment🦀
At the beginning of the year, I did the craziest thing I’ve ever done and I moved into a basement apartment that I found through Facebook.
From Texas to Maryland.
It was the best decision I ever made, but it’s time to say goodbye🥹
In Texas we don’t have basements, so this was such a cool experience! The basement was surprisingly big, it had this huge open area when you first get downstairs, which I sectioned off into a reading area, my working station, since I work from home, and a living room! It also had a bathroom, bedroom, and closet. It was a nice space and I felt like it was really cozy, especially during the colder months.
My landlord / Roomate was the best, and we even became close friends💗 she always invited me to do things and made sure I knew that I was allowed to hang out upstairs and I wasn’t banished to the lower levels😂 we also shared the kitchen. She also had 2 dogs that I dog-sat all the time, so it was almost like I had dogs!
Working from home in a basement was honestly the only downside to all of this, but being in Maryland meant I got to be closer to my fiancé, so it was absolutely worth it and a 10/10 experience!
Moving from Texas to Maryland was a significant change, especially switching to a basement apartment, which is rare in Texas. The cozy basement offered ample space for my reading area, work station, and living room, creating a warm atmosphere during winter months. The friendship with my landlord and sharing life with her two dogs added joy to everyday living. I learned to embrace the uniqueness of basement living, with distinct advantages such as lower rent and a more tranquil ambiance. However, adjusting to a home office in a basement was a challenge, especially with potential distractions and limited natural light. Despite these obstacles, the experience was enriched by the closeness to my fiancé and made memorable through new friendships. As I prepare to leave, I reflect on the lessons learned and the happiness found in this unconventional living situation.
