I 💗 co-sleeping

2025/8/27 Edited to

... Read moreAs a mom to an 11-month-old, I often get asked about our sleep routine. My answer might surprise some: we co-sleep, and I openly admit that I refuse to do any kind of sleep training. For our family, this isn't just a temporary solution; it's a lifestyle choice that brings immense peace and connection, especially during these fleeting baby years. For us, the benefits of co-sleeping have been immense. First and foremost, there's the incredible bond it fosters. Waking up to her sweet face right beside me, feeling her little hand reach out—these are moments I wouldn't trade for anything. It’s not just about emotional closeness; practicality also plays a huge role. Night feedings used to feel like a marathon, but with co-sleeping, they're so much smoother. I can often nurse her back to sleep without fully waking up myself, leading to more restful nights for both of us. When she stirs or needs comfort during the night, my presence is immediately reassuring. There’s no need for crying it out; a gentle pat or a quick snuggle is usually all it takes to settle her back down. This dramatically reduces stress for everyone involved, making us feel more secure and connected. Many parents considering co-sleeping wonder about the setup. While some opt for a dedicated 'baby co sleep bed' or a bedside bassinet, our approach is simpler. We share our family bed. Of course, safety is paramount. We ensure a firm mattress, no loose blankets or pillows near her face, and that she sleeps on her back. My husband and I are light sleepers, and we've created a safe zone for her in the middle, away from the edges. This setup allows me to feel her movements and respond instantly. It's a natural rhythm we've fallen into, completely unique to our family, and it’s truly how I'm sleeping with my 11-month-old, adapting our environment to suit her needs and our family's comfort. The decision to refuse any kind of sleep training was deeply personal. While I respect every parent's choice, for us, it didn't align with our parenting philosophy. I wanted to respond to her needs, not teach her to suppress them. Co-sleeping naturally supports this gentle approach. It reinforces the idea that her needs are always met, building trust and a secure attachment that I believe will last a lifetime. I know this phase won't last forever, and I cherish these moments. The convenience, the connection, the sheer joy of having my little one close by outweighs any perceived downsides. It's a lifestyle that truly works for us, fostering a peaceful and loving environment during the often-challenging infant and toddler sleep stages. Ultimately, how a mother sleeps with her baby is a highly personal choice. For me and my 11-month-old, co-sleeping has been a beautiful and beneficial journey, proving that sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best.
