I have so many different foundations, high end and low end foundations. idk y but for some reason I always find myself using concealers as my foundation.
I have really oily skin and I think concealer helps w oil control a little. I’ll still get oily but not as much as I would with foundation. And I feel like I always find my EXACT SKIN COLOR WITH CONCEALERS LOL
I still use foundations sometimes but for the most part, I love using concealers. I also have a habit of mixing my foundation to get the perfect skin match .
... Read moreFinding that perfect base makeup has always been a journey for me, especially with my oily skin and searching for shades that truly complement deeper skin tones. You know the struggle – that grayish cast, or a shade that's just a bit off? It's real!
That's why I totally relate to using concealers as foundation! In my experience, they often offer a higher pigment concentration, which means better coverage without needing a thick layer. For anyone with oily skin, this is a game-changer because less product often translates to less oil breakthrough throughout the day. Plus, with so many amazing concealer bottles and tubes available now, finding a diverse range of brown shades is becoming easier.
When it comes to foundation for black skin, the biggest challenge I've faced is finding the right undertone. It's not just about light, medium, or dark; it's about whether you have warm (golden, yellow, peach), cool (red, blue), or neutral undertones. My personal trick, which the original post touches on, is mixing foundations or even mixing a concealer into my foundation. I’ve found that a tiny drop of a warmer or cooler shade can transform a 'close but not quite' foundation into my absolute perfect match. Don't be afraid to experiment with the various brown shades out there!
And what about finding that 'nude' shade? For many years, 'nude' in makeup literally meant beige. But for deeper skin tones, a true 'nude' is a shade that disappears into your skin, enhancing your natural complexion without looking like you're wearing makeup. It’s about finding your skin tone in a product. This is where my love for finding the exact skin match with concealers comes in. Because they are designed to blend seamlessly with your skin to cover imperfections, they are often perfect for finding that true 'nude' for your overall face too.
For my fellow oily skin beauties, here are a few more tips I swear by. Always prep your skin with a good mattifying primer. When applying your concealer-as-foundation, I prefer using a damp beauty sponge or a stippling brush for an even, natural finish. Focus on areas where you need the most coverage, then blend outwards. And don't forget to set! A dusting of translucent setting powder, especially in your T-zone, really locks everything in place and helps with oil control. I also carry blotting papers for midday touch-ups, which refresh my look without adding more product. Remember, makeup is about enhancing, not masking, and with these strategies, you can truly achieve a flawless, long-lasting look that celebrates your natural beauty, no matter your skin tone.
