My Fave Workout to Prevent Office Chair Butt🪑🎀

Working in the office can be nice, but sitting in the chair for hours through your shift can cause office chair butt! Which is when your glutes flatten. Now don’t worry, you can prevent this by simply going to the gym & strengthening your glutes. Here is my favorite workout I do twice a week to prevent office chair butt✨

Workout: Hip Thrust Machine

Weight used: I use 25 lb plates on each side (go up to as heavy as you can go to build muscle)

Tips: push through your glutes to the top by reminding yourself to use your glutes to get you to the table top position! Once you’re at the top squeeze those glutes!

Repeat this workout for 3 sets of 10-12 reps😊

... Read moreSitting for long hours at an office desk can really take a toll on our glutes, leading to what many of us call 'office chair butt' or 'desk butt.' While my go-to hip thrust machine workout is incredibly effective for building and strengthening those glutes, I know not everyone can hit the gym daily. That's why I've also found some fantastic, discreet ways to keep my glutes active and prevent flattening right from my office chair! I’ve personally started incorporating these simple seated glute exercises into my workday, and they've made a huge difference. They help with *glute activation*, improve blood flow, and can even support better posture. You can literally do these without anyone even noticing! 1. The Seated Glute Squeeze Exercise: This is my absolute favorite for subtle glute activation. While sitting upright in your office chair, with both feet flat on the floor, simply squeeze your glutes as hard as you can. Hold the squeeze for 5-10 seconds, then slowly release. I try to do 10-15 repetitions of this a few times throughout the day, especially during meetings or while waiting for emails to load. It really helps remind my glutes they're there, even when I'm just sitting. 2. Seated Pelvic Tilts: This exercise is great for engaging your glutes and core, and it's super beneficial for your lower back too. While still seated, gently tilt your pelvis forward and backward. Imagine you're trying to flatten your lower back against the chair (posterior tilt) and then arch it slightly (anterior tilt). Focus on using your glutes and abs to control the movement. I aim for 10-12 slow, controlled reps every hour or two. This is another excellent office chair glute activation exercise that also contributes to good *office chair posture*. 3. Discreet Seated Leg Lifts: For a bit more action, I sometimes do these under my desk. While seated, lift one foot a few inches off the floor, keeping your knee bent. Hold for a few seconds, focusing on squeezing your glute on that side, then slowly lower. Repeat with the other leg. You can also try extending your leg straight out, holding it parallel to the floor for a few seconds. These are fantastic for targeting individual glutes and thighs without drawing attention. I usually do 8-10 lifts per leg, alternating sides. 4. Glute Squeeze with Desk Push: This one combines resistance. Sit firmly in your chair, place your hands on the edge of your desk, and push down gently. As you push down, simultaneously squeeze your glutes and try to lift your body slightly, even if it's just an inch. This creates a full-body engagement and an intense glute squeeze. I do this for 3-5 seconds, then release, repeating 5-8 times. Integrating these quick, seated glute squeeze exercises throughout my day has truly changed how I feel. They complement my gym sessions perfectly and help combat the effects of prolonged sitting. It's not just about preventing 'computer butt' – it's about maintaining strength, circulation, and overall well-being. Give them a try; you might be surprised how effective these small movements can be!
