Bread for Beginners

Easy Bread recipe w/out Dutch Oven for beginners

Ingredients (all bought at Kroger )

Instant yeast (brand - fleischmann’s)

Iodized Salt (brand-Morton’s)

Bleached All Purpose Flour (brand-Kroger)

What you need

Parchment paper

Baking sheet

A square deep pan (doesn’t matter size)

Measurements

3 cups flour

2 tsp instant yeast

2 tsp salt

1.5 cups of water

Making the dough

*Turn on oven light

*Mix all ingredients into the bowl

*Cover bowl with towel and place in the oven for 2-3 hours to let rise (I did 2 and it came out perfect)

Baking the bread

*Put flour on a surface to fold the dough (do not put too much thought into folding it. You just fold top, bottom, side, side. Easy peasy)

*Take out dough and place on the flour (don’t not fold yet)

*Place baking sheet upside down on top rack

*Add a 1/2 to 1 cup of water to the square baking pan and place on the bottom of the rack.

*Turn on oven to 450 degrees and let the oven preheat

*While preheating, fold the dough and place on parchment paper

*Once folded, flip upside down and score the dough with a sharp knife by cutting small slits at the top or one big one

*Once preheated, take dough on parchment paper and set on top of the upside down baking sheet

*Set a timer for 30 minutes (i always like to check on things 10 minutes beforehand , so i set mine to 20 minutes to check up and then i added an extra 10 minutes)

*Once it’s golden brown , take out of oven and place on safe plate or cutting board and allow 5-10 minutes to cool down before cutting open

*After cool down, cut and enjoy! ☺️

... Read moreFor those new to bread making, understanding the basics is crucial. This recipe utilizes key ingredients like Fleischmann's instant yeast for quick rising and Morton’s iodized salt for flavor. The combination of 3 cups of bleached all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, and 1.5 cups of water creates a wonderful dough that rises beautifully. Remember, patience is key; allowing the dough to rise in a warm oven for 2-3 hours is essential for achieving that perfect loaf. When baking, utilizing a baking sheet upside down helps to create a crisp crust, while the addition of water in a separate pan contributes to steam, which is vital for crust formation. It's also helpful to score the top of the dough to facilitate even expansion during baking. Keep a close eye on your bread as it bakes, checking for that golden brown color. Finally, allowing the loaf to cool for 5-10 minutes helps in making slicing easier and enhances the overall texture. This beginner-friendly method is not just about the bread but also the joy of baking at home!
